YOGI

This big handsome bear made his
way into our care after being found as a stray.
Unfortunately, health wise Yogi is
not is the best of shape. When he first came to us he was
suffering from huge pressure sores, had entropian in one eye and a
retained testicle. On top of all that he has very bad hips, and
had very little muscle on his hind legs... The majority of all Yogi's
problems were all down to sheer bad breeding!!
However, what he
lacks in the health department, he sure makes up for in temperament and
character, which is why F.R.R. were, and still are, committed to doing
all that we can to help make things better for this handsome boy.
The first task
was to have Yogi examined by a vet, who agreed with us that we should
concentrate primarily on building up the muscle around his hips.
Yogi was then put on a little - but - often exercise regime to start
with, gradually building up his exercise as his fitness improved/
2 weeks later,
Yogi visited the vet again who was very pleased with the progress he was
making, however, the joy that the F.R.R. team felt at seeing him improve
was overshadowed with worry when we found a suspicious lump under his
jaw. The vet was certain that it was a fatty lump, and elected to
leave it alone, but with strict instructions to keep an eye on it in the
following weeks.
Yogi then moved
into one of our most experienced foster homes, where he soon claimed the
couch, found a football to play with, and is even getting a weekly treat
from the ice cream van :)
Then in November
2010, Yogi became quite unwell. The lump under his jaw had swollen
to such a size that he was finding it increasingly difficult to eat.
The vets operated and managed to completely remove the lump, despite it
being a very tricky & delicate operation due to the lump being very deep
seated. Fortunately the lump did turn out to be harmless.
Yogi is now back
to eating well, and has taken on a new lease of life, however, because
of his ongoing health issues he will always remain in a foster home.
